Nothing is more classic than the colors of blue, grey, and brown. They are staples that every man should have in his closet, whether they take form as a suit, sportcoat, pants, or even ties! This article recreates an outfit from the Armoury (and Brycelands Co) utilizing these classic colors. The fact that my outfit costs $300 while the other costs $3,000 is an added bonus.
Pitti Uomo, the bi-annual tradeshow and site of #menswear pilgrimage, has come and gone again. Men of course were dressed in a variety of styles, whether they were classic like the Armoury boys or overly peacocking like AE Marmora. Even though we couldn’t attend, my friends decided to be inspired and dress up. Instead of going a bit crazy like we did last time, we went with more subdued and classic styles.
We used Part 1 to look at dapper day in the actual parks, but there was also some style at the Dapper Day expo! This was the place to go if you wanted to buy vintage items, get some cool accessories, or even swing dance. For those of you who don’t want to buy a ticket to Disneyland or California Adventure, head to next year’s expo! It’s totally free!
Dapper Day is my version of Pitti Uomo; street style abounds! People are able to go around Disneyland and dress up in style, whether its vintage, vintage inspired, or modern! Since it is Spring, the guys and I decided to take our vintage style to the next level. Most people make the misconception that vintage clothes are all made of thick wools and are only available in muted, boring colors. However, the 1940’s were still stylin’ in hot weather! They had a variety of fabrics that were still breathable and and comfortable to wear and were especially light colored for spring and summer fashion! Every time I talk about fashion with someone, vintage clothes always come up. One of the questions I’m always asked is “Why do you wear such baggy pants?” People always assume that vintage trousers are baggy because they’re thinking of the zoot suit, which was popularized by cultural phenomena. This is simply not the case.
Dapper Day is the best bi-annual event of the year. It’s a day where you get to show up to the Disneyland park instyle, whether its vintage or modern! As expected, Spencer and I strolled around in our vintage outfits. Last time, we styled ourselves with the sharp peak lapels of the 1930’s, but this time we went 10 years later as the more laid back and swingin’ 1940’s.
Before airplanes and road trips took over America, the cruise was the premier vacation. You get to sail to exotic places while dining with the captain, play shuffleboard with your neighbors, or simply take a stroll on the deck to gaze upon the starlight reflected on the sea. Back then, passengers didn’t wear oversized hawaiian shirts or lengthy board shorts. In the 1930s, people wore their very best while on vacation. They had casual jackets and pants that today would look too dressy, for even the office.
